Quick contrasts & pitfalls
- ことなく = formal “without doing A”. In casual speech, prefer 〜ないで or 〜ずに.
- ないで済む / ずに済む = you ended up not needing A. Often a relief or a good result.
- ずじまい = you failed to do A by the end; carries regret. Don’t use it for happy omissions.
- ぬ = literary/firm negative. In daily talk, use 〜ない. Avoid mixing with polite です・ます.
